Support: Creating Reports from Databases/Hosts

Creating from WHO ICTRP

The International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP) from the WHO contains searchable information from clinical trial registries around the world. BizInt Smart Charts for Clinical Trials version 4.0 added support for creating charts out of XML exports from the ICTRP.

Note that results from the Advanced Search are not formatted correctly. The export from Advanced Search was fixed in October 2015. All exports now work properly in BizInt Smart Charts for Clinical Trials version 4.0. If you have exports from before 19 October 2015, instructions for modifying the file to work in BizInt Smart Charts are listed below.

Step by Step

  1. Perform your search on the ICTRP search portal.
  2. Click the "Export results to XML" button.
  3. Read and agree to the terms of use of ICTRP data.
  4. Click the "Export all trials to XML" button.
  5. Your results will start to download immediately.
  6. Import the results into BizInt Smart Charts for Clinical Trials.
Fixing Advanced Search exports

Results found with the Advanced Search option from the ICTRP website do not work in BizInt Smart Charts for Clinical Trials. The Advanced Search exports an XML that is not standard. If you are comfortable editing a text file, it is fairly easy to edit your exported XML to fix this issue.

For results downloaded after October 19, 2015:

The XML is now almost the same as the basic search. However the document type is still missing. Add the following text to the top of the file:

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>

For results downloaded before October 19, 2015:

The Advanced Search export starts

<Trials>

If you replace this line with

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?><Trials_downloaded_from_ICTRP>

then BizInt Smart Charts for Clinical Trials will be able to read the file.
