The Last Kilometer - Communicating Analytics to the C-Suite

Abstract:

Communicating patent analytics to the C-Suite involves connecting the patent information, intelligence, and insights derived from patent analytics to data driven decisions. Delivery of effective patent information to senior management is usually addressed holistically with a coherent and clear strategy. Effective delivery of patent analytics and IP competitive intelligence to the C-suite is a top-down process with flexibility designed to meet the diverse information needs of the executives. A tentative agenda aligned with business strategy is often agreed upon up to a year in advance. The selected agenda topics represent a balance between competitive benchmarking metrics from cross-functional strategic questions, follow-up to any pending questions from senior executives, emerging opportunities (2-5 years), early warning, and risk mitigation.

 

Moving from the proverbial patent data to patent information to IP competitive intelligence and insights requires (a) a workflow process with well-defined roles and responsibilities, (b) value-added collaborative analysis by expert patent analysts as IP competitive intelligence “process owner,” and (c) efficient use of best-in-class tools as deemed appropriate for the individual projects. Communication of IP competitive intelligence analysis to the C-Suite aims to enable informed decision-making for competitive advantage.

 

This interactive workshop provides lessons learned and a framework for anyone transitioning to or expanding patent analytics and IP competitive intelligence capabilities to present to the C-Suite. The workshop advocates for both "IT driven statistical quantitative analytics” and “patent analyst driven qualitative analysis” with selected examples. Finally, the workshop provides an unique opportunity to discuss best practices in communicating patent analytics and IP competitive intelligence.

 

Presenter Biography:

Yateen Pargaonkar is the CEO and President of Riser IP LLC, a specialized patent search, analysis, and IP competitive intelligence service provider. Yateen’s experience includes roles of increasing responsibility in the Consumer Goods (P&G), Energy sector (Chevron), as well as legal supporting Biotechnology, and Pharmaceuticals (top-tier IP law firms). He has taught a course at UCSD on Patent Searching & Internet Research. Yateen has degrees in chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology, as well as three years of research experience at Columbia University. He is a registered U.S. Patent Agent, a reviewer for World Patent Information, and an active member of PIUG.
